Vi, Erling og Oddrun, bur på Oddrun sin odelsgard, midt i ei bygd i Volda. Erling er 70 år og Oddrun er 67 år. Garden består av ein stor hage, grasmarker, litt skog, noko myr og ein bergknaus med fin utsikt. Grasmarkene er leigd ut til nabogarden.
Hovedprosjektet vårt er å utvikle ein sjølbergingshage. Vi blei begge pensjonistar i 2021, og har sidan då jobba med å sakte utvikle eit ganske gjenngrodd område til grønsakshage. Oddrun er inspirert av permakulturtenking og regenerativt landbruk. Ho har erfaring frå økologisk hagebruk frå 1970-åra og dreiv tidlegare Debiogodkjendt urtegartneri. Erling likar også å halde på med vedarbeid.
Oddrun har budd på garden nesten heile livet og bur no på garden på fulltid. Erling har eit hus i Sunndal og bur på garden meir på deltid.
Vi jobbar heile tida med å etablere fleire grønsaksbedd, og sår, plantar og haustar. Vi haustar også ein del ville vekstar. Arbeidet vil variere noko etter årstida og etter veret. Når det regnar er det plantetid, når det er sol er det fint å hauste. Vedarbeid er også aktuelt.
Vi er begge pensjonerte lærarar, og likar å dele kunnskap med andre. Det gjer vi best ved å jobbe i lag, så det blir nok opplegget når vi har WWOOFerar på besøk. Sidan vi ikkje er ungdomar lenger, så er det ikkje aktuelt for oss å ha lange jobbøkter eller lange dagar.
For WWOOFarar har vi ei romslig leiligheit i 2 etasje der det er soverom, stue, kjøkken og toalett. Ei enkeltseng på soverom pluss en soveplass på stua. Bad i 1. etasje, delt med oss.
Minst ett felles måltid for dag, gjerne ute når veret er godt.
Vi likar å slappe av saman om kveldane og snakke om historie, politikk, literatur og anna. Vi likar begge å lese. Oddrun høyrer mykje på lydbok. Begge likar musikk. Oddrun likar å trene og male og er interessert i teater.
I Volda er det eit aktivt musikkmiljø med fleire festivalar i året. Frå garden kan ein gå fotturar i fjellet.
We, Oddrun and Erling, are living at Oddrun's farm, in the middle of a settlement in Volda. Oddrun is 67 years old, and Erling is 70. The farm has a big garden, grass fields, a bit of forest, some bog and a hilltop with a nice view. The grass fields are rented out to a neighbouring farm.
Our main project is to develop a self-sustaining garden. We both became pensioners in 2021, and we have since then slowly been developing a rather bushy area into a vegetable garden. Oddrun is inspired by perma-culture thinking, and she has experience with ecological gardening from the 1970s and had a "Debio"-approved herb nursery. Erling also likes to work with preparing firewood.
Oddrun has lived on the farm almost all her life, and she is now living there full time. Erling has a house in Sunndal municipality farther north, so he is at the farm part-time.
We are all the time working with establishing more vegetable beds, and we sow, plant and harvest. The work varies somewhat with the season and the weather. When it rains, it is time to plant, when it is sunny, it is nice to harvest. Working with firewood is also a thing to do.
We are both retired teachers, and we like to share our knowledge with others. The best way of doing that is working together, so that will be the way to do things when WWOOFers are visiting. Since we are not young any more, we do not have long work hours or work days.
For the WWOOFers we have a flat, quite roomy, on the second floor with bedroom, living room, kitchen and toilet. A single bed in the bedroom and also a place to sleep in the living room. There is a bathroom with a shower on the first floor (ground floor) shared with us. At least one common meal per day, and we can have it outside when the weather is nice.
We like to relax together in the evenings and talk about history, politics, literature and other things. We both like to read. Oddrun listens a lot to audio-books. Both like music. Oddrun likes to exercise and paint and she is interested in theatre. There is an active musical scene in Volda, with several festivals each year. From the farm one can go on hikes in the mountain.

My two weeks at Oddrunds farm were wonderful! She and Erling are welcoming, very friendly hosts with a lot of knowledge. The accommodation is clean and very friendly and a lot of room to use for yourself. I learned so much about gardening and permaculture and enjoyed the lovely surrounding area too! I had a lot of time to enjoy nature and go on hikes. I had a wonderful and relaxing time and enjoyed our chats and the few games we played.
