Hei. Vi er et ektepar som driver en gård etter permakulturprinsipper og gårdsturisme. Vi holder til på Handnesøya, ei vakker grønn øy på Helgelandskysten, som ligger utenfor tettstedet Nesna. For oss er det å ivareta jorden og dets mangfold viktig og vi viser det i vårt arbeid med dyra og med jorden. Vi har totalt 160 dyr av ulike slag (kyr, sau, geit, gris, ponnier, hunder, katter, kaniner, høner, gjess, ender, påfugl), og har fått dyrevelferdsmerket på vårt hønehold av dyrevernalliansen. Dyrene våre er blant de minste i sin art. Vi driver med gårdsturisme og tar dermed i mot små grupper turister som vil lære mer om dyr og gårdsliv. Vi har holdt på i fire år og har som mål på bli et LANDsenter i Permakultur.
Vi har daglige rutiner på å gi alle dyra tilsyn, mat og vann hver morgen og hver kveld. På sommerhalvåret er tilsynet og vanntilgang det viktigste, da dyrene spiser ute av det jorden gir, men fuglene og grisene får supplert opp med mat.
Aktivitetene på gården er sesongbetonte og kan innebære alt fra vedhogst og grøftegraving, til gjerdeoppsett og enkelt snekkerarbeid og på vår, sommer vil fokus være på å etablere en matskog.
I tillegg til dyr og dyrking, er vi interesserte i matlaging (surdeig, ysting, pølsemaking, speking, fermentering, varmrøyking), yoga og løping . Ethel liker å snekre, håndarbeid og maler endel når hun har tid til det, mens Baard foretrekker jakt, fiske, film og serier.
Hi. We are a couple in our late fifties who run a farm based upon permaculture principles and farm tourism. The farm is called Bitteliten gård, which means the Tiny farm. We are located on a beautiful green island, called Handnesøya. Handnesøya looks like a hand, and the name of the island means Hand Cape Island. The island is in the municipality of Nesna, approximately 100 km south of the polar circle. There are only 70 people living on the island, yet 7 nationalities are represented.
For us it is important to take care of the earth and its diversity. We have a total of 160 animals. Including ducks, chickens, geese, peacocks, ponies, dogs, cats, sheep, cows, rabbits, pigs and goats. Our animals are among the smallest of their kind, and they all live together in peaceful harmony. We came to the farm about four years ago, and had no experience in farming, nor farm animals (not counting 8 chickens we had in our backyard), so there was a lot we have had to learn. Right now, our goal is to become a Permaculture LAND Center. A LAND Centre (Learning, Activity, Network, Demonstration) in permaculture is an accredited site, that actively demonstrates sustainable, regenerative practices and serves as an educational hub for the public to learn permaculture.
Activities on the farm are seasonal and can involve everything from cutting wood and digging ditches, to setting up fences and simple carpentry, and in spring and summer the focus will be on establishing a food forest.
