Hi there! My husband and I have taken over the farm which has been in my family for four generations. I think it may be one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen. We have many popular hiking trails that we frequent right from our front yard. We enjoy seeing many people and families walking by, and nearly everyone commenting on what an absolutely lovely place we live in. We are so lucky to be surrounded by stunning nature and views every day. We are about 20 minutes to downtown Bergen by car, and about 5-7 minutes to Ikea, lots of shopping, amenities, libraries etc. It is a great place to enjoy peace and quiet and also to explore the city. Public transportation here is wonderful, it is a 1.5 km steep but paved walk to the nearest bus station, of course we are always happy to lend a ride when we are heading up or down. Projects that we hope to tackle with our Wwoof guests include prepping garden beds, building compost bins, working on cutting out invasive species, working on some fencing, harvesting chickens, planting a willow bed, seed starting, setting up honey boxes, building a new chicken tractor. Depending on the preferences and experience of the guests we may have some flexibility to let that guide the projects we explore together. We really love the idea of having an exchange of knowledge. If we have guests who have a lot of experience in an area we plan to explore on the farm we would love to learn from them and get new systems up and running. Of course we are also excited to show what we know about growing animals and food as well. This is only our second season on the farm and before we arrived no farming had been done for 20 years or so. Of course we have SO many projects we are excited about getting started. So far we have a small flock of chickens and have planted a small orchard. We expect to have a poly tunnel, greenhouse, and new chicken coop setup by springtime. We can already feel satisfaction from the small amount of regeneration we are generating from composting, feeding scraps to the chickens, harvesting chickens for food, getting eggs, and from our garden. Mostly we feel excitement for our regenerative vision and all of the different projects and priorities we know are within reach for us. My husband is a part time student and we have small children so while we are busy, but we also have a lot of time and energy to focus on getting things up and running. We really enjoy working hard, spending time out doors, and want to see how far our projects can take us. We expect that in the future we will earn money from some of our projects, but as of right now we are just learning and growing and trying to get things established. Trying to figure out which areas will be successful. Some things we hope to establish: A willow patch to have a nice supply of willow for various uses mostly in the garden, a greenhouse, a polytunnel, a mobile chicken tractor, honey production, smoking/preserving/preparing various foods we harvest, starting seeds. Our farm house has a secondary, attached home with three bedrooms and two bathrooms. It is not fancy but is very clean and cozy and many in my family have lived there, as did my own family for about a year. Now we live in the "big house" and the smaller house is available for our Wwoof guests. Since the accommodations are quite private this might be a nice posting for people who are in a small group, couple, or someone who is okay spending some time alone. Cooking is one of my favorite past times and I spend a lot of time in the kitchen preparing food for the family because I love it. We are healthy eaters and eat a variety of foods. I make sourdough bread, ferment saurkraut, bake with the kids, and generally just enjoy cooking and having good, simple food. Most of our food comes from the grocery store now, hopefully that will be changing fast:) I would expect most days our guests would join us in our home for dinner if they like, and mostly prepare breakfast and lunch on their own. For breakfast and lunch we would provide typical Norwegian food, which is normally bread and pålegg. Pålegg would be like sliced meats, cheeses, veg, normally eaten on bread or hard crackers like an open faced sandwich. Also basics like milk, eggs, oats, fruits, grains, veg, beans etc. Of course if something else suits you we are happy to accommodate. We are lucky to have such beautiful hiking near us. We hope to buy a boat next season and do some fishing. We love going into the city to visit museums and various activities for the kids. I have a large extended family here so we are also visiting and hosting sometimes as well. At this season in our lives, with a 3 and 4 year old at home, playing with them is our most frequent hobby:) We are open and friendly people. We are new to farming but hope we will be able to share the fun of learning and building something new with our guests.
