Organic animal farm on an Island

Hello I'm Birte, I am a 67 years old dentist and I work as an instructor at the Bergen dental school part time. I am also a part time farmer. My husband Rune helps me on the farm when necessary, but it is not his project as he says. I am on the Island as much as I can, but the days I work I am staying at my apartment downtown Bergen. There is only one more family on the Island, a cabin 900 meters from the farm. My grandmother was one of nine children born on this farm. I have always been interested in clearing in the cultural landscape and it is amazing what we have achieved since we got the first sheep in 2007. Straumsoygard is an idyllic farm located on an island on the west coast of Norway. Here I have 15 old Norse sheep, a primitive breed that has grazed on this coast line for thousands of years. I got 20 lambs this year. I also have 6 kashmir goats, 4 kashmir goat babies, 2 wool pigs, 6 peacocks, a lot of chickens, running ducks and rabbits. On the farm a great deal of the help will be to take care of the animals. Feed them, see that they have clean water, clean the barn and the cages. Also help to get the animal food from my car to the boat , into the ATV and into the barn. Transportation and logistics is much more difficult since the farm is on an island so the WOOFers will also have to learn how to maneuver a boat. The good thing is that the boat trip is only 5 minutes. I also hope to get some help clearing in the cultural landscape, and grow more grass for the animals. They will learn how you can provide a lot of your food from the farm, learn how to fish and to enjoy the beautiful nature and wild birdlife. The WOOFer will also be able to learn a lot of the city of Bergen with all the museum etc.etc. From Bergen it will also be possible to take trips to see the fjords etc This year, I have started 5 different gardens growing vegetables and flowers. They have of course to be surrounded by fences because of the goats. Organic methods using manure from our own animals has given me fantastic results. With more time and help I will expand the area of growing "things", I really enjoy that. The accomodation will be in an seperate little cosy house. We have electricity and cold and hot water . Bathroom with shower and toilet in two other houses. The days I am on the Island I can cook dinner ( I am a pretty good cook :) and otherwise I will provide food. I got a Sauna Barrel heated with wood which has been very popular. In the free time it is possible to take a hike on the Island, go fishing, take trips to Fedje, Lindås center, Lynghei senteret etc. The Island has TV and very good internet. The WOOFer here will have to like the beautiful nature and love my animals and hopefully not be feeling lonely. When I come to the Island in the weekend the WOOFer can sometimes borrow my apartment in Bergen to get some " big city life ". Bergen is a really beautiful town surrounded by 7 mountains and fjords.
