Idyllic homestead with sheep in middle of norwegian wilderness based on sustainable values
Trøndelag
Welcome to our project of building a nature based self sufficient farm in the outback of mid-norway.
We are following our dream of a homestead and restoring this old farm. All is completly self taught + first generation farming, learning & work in progress, a non profit so far. You can help us preparing and maintaining in general. Starting up with a permaculture garden, help with farm animals, renovation and many projects (DIY) in the middle of the forest & mountains without neighbors. We are not self sufficient yet, but planning on being. We want to produce for ourselves. We loved this place of norways rural country + seaside, as it is a perfect mixture of forests, fields, creeks running through the property, and the sea. We are one family of two sisters in their twenties, our mother , our most beloved two big dogs and one sisters partner.
We immigrated to NO and chase the dream for a more naturally, healthier life in norwegian’s intact nature. We moved here from germany and netherlands. We are all different, and yet share a similar way of thinking: going back to the roots. The goal for now is to try out what's possible in the north & produce as much as possible for ourselves. Right now we are in the starts. The farm has its own micro bakery: My sister can teach you some basic homesteading, like typical german sourdough bread making, canning and ..
What is special about this location in norway?: We have outside our doors the unique form of a one of a kind vegetation on earth: the boreal rainforest. Which is characterized by a unique flora and fauna, due to the abundant food supply of nature. Here the protected nature flourishes differently than in other cold and barren parts of the country. In addition, we are located at the end of the fjord arm with many freshwater inflows. The weather is magical in this place. The rainforest means not plenty of rain, but a harmonious balanced forest ecosystem.
For your first visit I suggest 1-3 weeks to see how you like it here. There may be a possibility of extending. I ask for understanding and respect for our decision if not ,as this is is our private home and retreat.
Please make sure you have full medical travel insurance, and regulations for travelling.
The internet access is limited in your cabin, so I ask you to ensure you have your own mobile data. If its a good fit and a longer stay we could install cabin wifi😊
We provide you with all grocerys, quality tea, coffee...sometimes even a fully cooked meal.
We have instruments you can borrow, and a kanu, kajakk. Everyone has own private room, people travelling with a warm tent or their own motor home can be always welcomed. More about accommodation, the tasks, please read underneath.
We are about 30min drive from the nearest town, so we try to only go into town for shopping about once a week. Volunteers should bear this mind when deciding to stay with us. We are quite isolated, you should be prepared to enjoy the solitude and peace that this place offers and experience an authentic life in the wilderness.
You will definetly get lots of interactions with animals around here. There can be a tricky part of norwegian summers in the untouched nature: mosquitos
The farm was used for sheep and forest production. Right now we have chickens, turkeys & sheep, the old norwegian viking race, and cows, ducks...
They also serve self-sufficiency. We do personally no longer believe in a supermarket tree on which meat grows. If you by any chance know more about farming, permaculture, share your practices.
It would be cool to grow together. We want you to get to know the culture at our little retreat and become a part of it, while we get to know you. You can either escape a hectic city life, expand your knowledge, help us out or just explore, how life could look like on a small farm in norway.
We are welcoming & easy going, but as we share our very private home with you, if you are any of the following you will not be a best fit for here :
- dependant on wifi, mobile phone usage the whole day (we proudly keep radiation low )
- hysterical with bugs, spiders, ..wilderness
- think this is a cheap way to get away without actually wanting to help and explore tasks as mentioned underneath
- reliant on drugs of all kinds
- expecting city action, not excited to explore here natures facettes by your own, as this is a remote place
- can not respect our privacy
- overly religious
- afraid to be in rain
! In your application: if it isn't in your profile already, please describe your skills and and if you are experienced with the concept. Please describe us what you could be helpin with.
I want to encourage people to come here, who believe in their natural immune system and the power of mother nature. We trust on home remedies and try to include them. We encourage independancy and freedom over fear in personal choices.
Prepare to see mooses , some reindeers wandering on fields. Maybe an eagle or seals.
We would really like to have company and of course help as well. Most of the tasks demands that you can help independently and understands the certain responsibility to it. We are searching for people, who want to fit in the lifestyle and can see work by themselves. As this is a first generation farming project we aren't experts ourselves, so you are very welcome to sometimes come up with solutions, improvements, DIY plans by yourselves, We usually use the books, internet as a source for project inspirations. As self explaining as it is, I ask you please be honest .
Although we admire norwegian nature‘s calm and quiet, it is still exciting to meet people and having a good time.
Of course we don't ask you to have any special skills (but if you do so, you are very welcome to tell us). We ask you to be animal friendly, appreciative of nature and bring a good mood. The daily routine varies from your skills. As wwoof explains half of your day you will be doing farm tasks , normal maintaining like cleaning up, or cooking/preparing the meals and fetching vegetables/berries for food is not included in that time.
Typical range: 5-6 hours per day, up to 6 days a week.
We are looking for single travelers, couples, groups, starting from mid twenties til .. This is because we expect from you a certain degree of independence and self-determination from you in daily tasks, without constant supervision/further direction. Learning by doing.
The 6 of us settled in this little paradise now and we put our heart (& sweat) into this project by building up all of this out of nowhere.
Now let's give some love to this place.
😊 We look forward to get to know you
We all are foodies. There will always be plenty of food. You have your own living area:
Freshly renovated cabin, which has two bedrooms (space for 2-4 people, depends if you are ready for a roommate), own bathroom, Mini kitchen, couch, with their own bed, with fresh linen
-you can go camping on the property/come with a tent/campervan if you have and borrow maybe our stuff
-food means comfort, grocerys are included for 3+ meals a day, daily there is fresh bread baked
-depending on everyones' schedules we share 1 or more times per week a meal together
We try to include produce of the land. So vegetarian/ vegan lifestyles aren't a good fit. If you have a sweet tooth: My sister usually bakes way too much
-on the farm limited internet access
-town once a week, parking spaces here for your own vehicle
- a long coast line for great grilling evenings and long walks
-meditative environment, feel free to join for some yoga in the boreal rainforest
-kanu
-you are open to bring own equipment or tools (for handcrafting, snorkling, diving, climbing ...) if you want to. if you want to travel light weight, please tell me, so we can make arrangements
- smoking is your business but !highly important! we have a zero nature pollution policy on the farm, we even sometimes organize small water clean up actions
Help we are currently looking for:
* firewood for ourselves
*build up fences (poles wooden, metal for animals and one more artsy for vegetable garden, includes using a power tools to build/cut the posts )

*wood"projects": doing fun DIY-projects like building raised beds for kitchen garden, chicken coops, animal shelter, rose arch, wood benches, hay rack, farm entrance gate,

The tasks demands that you could help independently during 25- 30 hours per week & understand the responsibility.
