Lake-side, berries, large vegetable garden, bees and renovations on old småbruk
Viken
Hi!
We are Nat and Morten and we moved to this little gem in the autumn of 2024. We have a lovely lake view, a waterfall and some ruins (a fallen down barn)! Also we have 80 berry bushes and this summer we established our honey bees, and a large vegetable garden in market garden-style with a greenhouse.
Our vision is to develop this farm into a pleasant place that we, our friends, guests and neighbours can enjoy. There's swimming, lots of birds, creeks and forests - all close to Oslo. And it's mushroom season now and we're exploring good places for picking.
As we imagined, throughout the 2025 growing season together with our WWOOFERS and other friends we built a huge veggie garden, fenced it in, sowed planted, watered and weeded, and started with honey bees. And now we're harvesting every day and processing, storing and fermenting. We started renovating and building little structures and still on our list for this year is extending the storage space we have and building a woodshed. Guests can also take part in our regular activities of making yoghurt, fermenting vegetables, baking bread and other food preservation and preparation.
We have lots of growing experience, Nat works with urban agriculture in Oslo and Morten works as a gardener at a museum there. We both have previously run various CSA farms around Oslo and now it's time to establish our own little farm. Our focus the first few years is to clean up the place, renovate, build and grow enough food for ourselves, our friends and our wwoofing guests.
We have full time jobs in town, so we work at our farm in the afternoons and weekends, depending on our energy levels. We have our hearts set on establishing an outcome, regenerating or two parties, building a garden shed code you the marked garden, more wood sheds, a new bridge over the creek and defiantly an outdoor kitchen and pizza oven. We also do some forest work - felling trees, chopping wood. And some fun projects like growing mushrooms on logs and foraging for wild edible plants.
As our guest you would have to be comfortable being at the farm alone on the days we are at work in Oslo. You can then do activities on the farm as well as having time to do your own thing.
We have for now one small house in which we live, that has guest room that can fit one (1) wwoofer. Or there is lots of space for pitching a tent if you are a couple or a small group. We love food and cooking and would love for you to join in. We eat vegetarian and enjoy sharing mealtimes to socialise and share ideas.
We have a sauna here and we also love swimming in the lake. There is a row boat here for you to use and opportunities for walking/hiking in the forests nearby. Morten likes to do some woodwork and Nat enjoys ceramics but for the moment we don't have workshops at the farm, but not everything needs a full workshop setup so there could also be some activities that we do with our guests based on these handicrafts too. We have spare bikes that can be borrowed to get to other swimming spots, bigger forests or the Østmarka national park and the villages nearby.
Since we are in Oslo on most weekdays there's some good opportunities for exploring around here or heading into the city with us. There guests can go to the museum where Morten works as he has some limited guest passes, and Nat is a member of the National museum and gets a free ticket for two guests there too.
If you're thinking of writing to us, remember to tell us if you have camping equipment and are happy to camp if you are more than one person. We have ticked off Spanish and Chinese language but Nat's memory of these languages is now basic while she focuses on learning Norwegian. But don't worry, we'll all be able to communicate well enough to have fun and live together!

I stayed two weeks in Asplund in Oktober. It’s a wonderful and calm place surrounded by beautiful Norwegian landscape 💚.
Nat and Morten were wonderful hosts who tried to make my stay as varied as possible and kept a fair amount of work hours. Thus, I gladly spent time outside with different, mostly fun garden task. I also could help with honey slinging, mushroom picking and building a new wood shed which was very fun!
They both are excellent cooks, so I just loved all the yummy food 😋. In the evenings, we sometimes watched shows or just sat together and talked.
On my free days, I went to Oslo where I visited very interesting museums as well as Nats pottery class ☺️.
Overall I can recommend staying at Asplund! 🩷

I had a fantastic month at the Asplund/Salamander farm and can definitely recommend staying with Nat and Morten. It was my first time wwoofing so everything was pretty new but it went great. They are welcoming, funny and helpful in every situation and taught me many new skills and knowledge regarding gardening and crafting. I was part of building the wood chip pathways in the garden, ripping out a whole room in one of the sheds, mushroom hunts, harvesting fresh vegetables and berries from the garden, cutting grass, repairing some wooden house parts, beekeeping, honey slandering and so much more. During the week you are pretty flexible with tasks and work times such as your free days. I also went to Oslo three times, which takes about an hour. On the weekend we worked together and they taught us new skills, we even went to a Dugnad and lake swim one Saturday, but the lake at their property is also nice for morning swims or cooldowns after work.
They are excellent at cooking, fermenting and bread baking. We cooked together almost every day and learned about different cuisines, spices and flavors.
We talked, shared stories and laughed a lot, and even if there was a small problem it was always a respectful way of handling it. It’s also a safe space for queer people.
They are the best and the place is really beautiful! I will miss my cold morning swims, the “cooking show”, vegetable feasts, the lake view, garden and our cozy evenings.
Takk for alt, vi sees igjen!

It was a wonderful experience to wwoof at the asplund farm! I learned a lot about beekeeping, gardening and mushrooms. Nat & Morty are great hosts, they know a lot about sustainable farming and cooking! I immediately felt welcome and I would definitely go back :)

I stayed 11 nights at the wonderful farm with Morty and Nat. They are really welcoming and I felt very comfortable with them the whole time and they are excellent at cooking.
We worked together and they showed me some skills and explained everything well. They are open for your ideas and there are a lot of different things to do, so I could choose and worked for example at the field, fixed the tractor, mowed, helped with the bees and repaired a wood door.
It was a very great experience and I hope to come back one day.
Thanks :)

Wonderful first wwofing experience with Nat and Morten, I couldn't have wished for better hosts to start with. Very welcoming and caring, they taught me lots of things and we were able to have enriching discussions about permaculture and activism. They’re just stars 😎. Their farm remains for me a little paradise on earth with lots of projects in the pipeline. I can't wait to see what the other wwoofers will do to transform this land.
I'm still available if you need inspiration for naming spaces... or tools, after the « Jesus Field » and the « Raven » 🤣 Takk for Morten 😉
