HORSE FARM WITH BREEDING. SUCKLER COW AND SHEEP. My name is Maria, and I am a horse, cattle and sheep farmer. My farm is run according to organic principles, without pesticides or artificial fertilizers. I breed Icelandic horses and Døl horses (Norwegian working horses). In addition, I have a suckler cow herd and a small flock of old Norwegian Spele sheep. My daughters Sara Og Selma have horses on the farm and are involved in the business. You should be an independent, reliable team player who can be a valuable part of our farm. You should be honest, sincere and respectful towards the people and animals you will work with. You should be willing to actively participate in daily tasks and occasional work on the farm. And be interested in learning how and why. I would not recommend those with allergies for hay or animals to stay with us. The task on the farm consists of about 5 hours a day, 5 days a week. The activities on the farm change with the seasons. In winter, the focus is on feeding, caring for and cleaning at the animals, as well as training and taming the horses. Spring is dedicated to preparing the summer pastures. It is also the time for foaling, calving and lambing, which require close attention. In summer, the focus is on mowing and supervising the animals on pasture. There is also time for some painting jobs and maintenance and installation of fences. We have a wood machine and will maintain a good production of wood. There is a cozy guest apartment on the farm where the WWOOFers live in teams. It has a well-equipped kitchen, living room with TV, a bathroom and a laundry room. Meals: Different ways are practiced. Some people want to cook their own food, and some like to have a shared meal. This is agreed and practiced by prior arrangement. Maria buys food according to each individual's wishes. On days off, there are a number of activities to do. The surrounding area is a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts, with many fishing lakes, beaches and countless marked hiking trails. Maria has a "koja" out in the wilderness, which can be visited and used. Learning Opportunities: • Horse • Sheep • Cattle • Forestry • Foraging and harvesting in the wilderness • Meat processing We run a continuously evolving farm, where the goals and visions vary and change. New ideas and creative ways of enhancing the work and life on the farm are welcome.

I spent three months on Maria’s farm, and it was the best experience I could have imagined. Days start with the daily things : feeding the animals, cleaning the boxes… If you are efficient, you’ll have time to do many other things! Maria is an impressive person, doing practically everything by herself and is truly passionate about the animals. She is direct, funny, with incredible energy : she manages her farm with a lot of common sense and takes time to explain how and why things are done in a certain way. Beautiful place, beautiful values, beautiful person, this farm is a little piece of paradise for anyone who loves nature and animals and is willing to work and help. I am so grateful for everything I had the chance to experience and all the memories I take with me ! I miss you all and I can’t wait to come back and see my little Lexi, Frigg og Rån Pån, Godi… everyone again ! Thank you so much Maria ♡

I was at Maria's farm in April/May. I had a really good time and learnt a lot about handling animals. All the sheep gave birth during this time. It was great to watch the lambs grow up. And several calves and two foals were also born. I usually worked from 8.30 am to 4 pm. Sometimes a little longer, depending on whether there were any special tasks to do. I spent most of the morning feeding the horses, cows and sheep. Then the stables and paddocks had to be cleaned and other things had to be done from day to day. I liked the fact that it was so varied. I never got bored at work. I got on very well with Maria. She works with so much passion for her animals. It's incredible. In the month I was on the farm, I was partly alone, with one or two other woofers. We shared a flat with our own kitchen. There is no WiFi so bring some books! The nature around the farm is beautiful. I often took a swim in one of the many small lakes close to the farm. For people who want to work with animals, I can only warmly recommend Maria's farm! Thank you Maria for the great experience!

Our WWOOF stay at Marias farm started off on a really promising note. During the first couple of days, we felt genuinely welcomed, and it seemed like it would be a positive and rewarding experience. However, things changed significantly when Maria left for the weekend, after we had only been there for two days. The two of us were left to manage the tasks as best as we could. We followed everything we had been shown, though it’s important to note that the instructions came from the two previous volunteers, not Maria herself. When Maria returned, instead of asking how things had gone or offering constructive feedback, she was unexpectedly rude and immediately criticized the work we had done. She claimed that everything was wrong, despite not having given us direct guidance in the first place. Unfortunately, she wasn't open to hearing our side or understanding why we made certain choices based on the instructions we’d received. The experience quickly turned from promising to disappointing. We both felt disrespected and undervalued. If it hadn't been for the bond and support we had between the two of us, we likely would have left early. We share this not to discourage others entirely, but to offer a heads-up. The farm may work well for some, especially if expectations and communication are clear from the start. But for us, the lack of direct guidance and the way we were treated made it a difficult and disheartening experience. Emma and Antonia

Emma, who writes this review together with Antonia, from Antonia's profile, I experienced as completely uninterested in farming and farm operation and she seemed impervious to information about how we do things and why. I see in retrospect that she does not state any interests related to agriculture on her profile. So it is quite clear that the wrong person was in the wrong place here. For me, it is important that those who are here to visit have an interest in the farm, the animals and the tasks. Of course, I should have just asked to go somewhere else, instead of having in my home, for two weeks, a person I was very uncomfortable whith. I take this as a lesson, read the profiles of Wwoofers here carefully before I approve a visit.

Maria's Farm was my first WWOOFING experience and I couldn't have wished for a better one. As well as working with the horses, sheep and cows, Maria was very friendly and funny and was able to tell me a lot about the animals. I was lucky enough to be there during lambing season, which is why I have a bit too many pictures of my time here on my phone :). I hope I have the time to come back here again in the near future :). Thank you Maria for this time!

I spent three weeks at Maria’s farm and had an absolutely wonderful time getting to know the farm life and exploring the island! Maria is very energetic and has a lot of projects going on. Each day was occupied with a variety of tasks, including feeding the beautiful animals, building fences, painting the barn, cleaning the stables, brushing the horses, and shearing the sheep! Working with other WWOOFers was a pleasure and certainly made the experience all the more special. The accommodation is very comfortable and Maria provided all the food that we needed, according to our dietary preferences. On off days, I had the chance to go hiking and explore the island. The scenery is incredibly beautiful and there are even fresh mountain lakes to swim in (if you don’t mind the cold!). I won’t forget this experience and cannot recommend it more if you are truly looking to engage with farming. Tusen takk Maria!

Thank you for a wonderful 3 weeks Maia. You are a beautiful person both inside and out. I think my animals and I were lucky to have you here. You are a knowledgeable and thoughtful person. I would have liked more time for long, good conversations. All work assignments were completed to my utmost satisfaction. Welcome back any time

It was our first time wwoofing and we had a great experience! The island and the farm are really beautiful. Maria is a very welcoming person and though the weather can be rough we had fun cleaning the stable when the dog Lexi joined or the horses wanted to be cuddled. We had a beautiful time and we already miss the farm life!
