My name is Peder and I live here at the organic farm Osmoen øvre in the village of Os i Østerdalen. The farm is in the valley at 600 metres above sea level, with forests and mountains around. It's a traditional cattle farm in the mountain region, with the local breed "Røros cow". In another house at the farm lives my father. Until 2023 we produced milk. Now we let the calves with their mothers "full-time". The main production is meat. It's still a milking breed though, so it's possible to get some milk for us too. We have a subsistence garden with potatoes and a little berries and vegetables. We have several timber buildings from the 1800s and an idyllic farmyard, where we for many years held an autumn market day. We have a bit of forest to manage, and a “spring farm” and a “summer farm” in the outfields nearer to the mountains, where the cows graze in summertime. For ten years, until recently, we organized “Inn på tunet” daycare (green care) for people with dementia two days per week. In the future I would like to start again something like that, opening the farm for people in various ways. There’s much potential to develop things at the farm in sustainable ways, and I like creative involvement from others. A typical WWOOF day at our farm could include feeding and looking after the cows, tending the garden, harvesting – such as putting up hayracks – managing forest or grazeland, fencing, carpentry, clearing snow, foraging, cooking. There’s a basic guest apartment in one of the buildings at the farm. We have dinner together in the main building. The other meals you will serve yourself in the apartment. Often we gather at “coffee time” (midday). My main hobbies are reading, writing or listening to music when I sit down, and running or skiing, or just wandering, when I get out. I like joining cultural events in the community or region. Living and managing a farm is also a lifestyle itself. There’s a lot to explore in the vast and varied outdoors of the area. Os has most basic services, and regional and cultural centre Røros (UNESCO World Heritage Site) is a 25-minute bus trip away.

It was my first time wwoofing and I really enjoyed the stay on Peder's farm. He lives there together with his father. I especially liked to work with the cows. I came and had a lot of respect for them, but Peder had a lot of patience and he explained a lot. He has a very good sence of humor and in general he is a very agreable person. You can discuss a lot of different topics with him. He also gave me inputs for hiking. We were staying mainly at the summerfarm 20min. drive from Os in the foresty hillside. It was wonderful up there. I had my own little cabin, but I only used it for sleeping since we mainly stayed in the main cabin, where we also had dinner and other meals together. I did varied work on the summerfarm, which was letting in and out the cows, checking and feeding them, cuddle the calves and of course the adult once as well, and move/ repair fences. During the day we were either driving down to the mainfarm and did work on the fields or haiing work on the springfarm, which is 10min drive from the main farm and also has a small cabin. Os "center" is 10 min by bike and there is a busstop 200m away. The bus doesn't run very often though, but you can take one of their bikes :).

I had a wonderful stay at Osmoen gård. Peter, is a very nice and clever host. It was nice to spent time with him and get to know a bit the Norwegian country side. The apartment was great with all the facilities you need. Most of the work this spring was help in the barn with cleaning and feeding . Also we did some woodwork on and around the farm and more different smaller tasks. Furthermore it is a wonderful place to hike and cycle around. Røros , the nearest town, is very cute with a nice history museum and little cafes. ☕️ Thx for the stay🙌 Greetings Dimme
