Hello 😊 My name is Nicolay. I'm a professor of psychology at the University of Stavanger where i research and teach emotion psychology and social psychology. Even though that is my main job, I have started up a vineyard as I love nature and being outdoors (and wine of course). The vineyard is located in one of the most beautiful places in Norway - just next to Arendal in the very south of Norway. Some words about me: I am an active, positive person. I see myself as a realistic-optimistic, alternatively optimistic-realistic person (can you say that?). I enjoy listening to music (especially jazz, indie and indie-electronica). I also like to do xc hiking in nature to amazing sceneries and beautiful places. In the autumn I like to pick wild mushrooms and in the winter time go xc skiing. Or just relax and enjoy in front of the fireplace. I enjoy good conversations, being with friends and family, do boat trips on the river ways/lakes, making food, enjoy travelling, watching movies/series. I also like city-life so I try travelling to larger cities at least once a year to enjoy culture and city-life (with good food etc). My favorite European cities are; Barcelona, Napoli, Praha (Prague) and Athens. About the vineyard: The vineyard is a certified ecological/organic vineyard and so far 9000 vines have been planted . It is surrounded by water on two sides. One famous salmon river on the one side, and a canal on the other side. This means there are great opportunities for fishing, and in the summer time the excellent water temperatures makes it ideal for swimming (water temperatures can come up to 25 celcius in the summertime). This area of Norway has warm summers (+20 to +30) and beautiful weather. You can see the vineyard in the Instagram profile I have added. As it is a start up vineyard, most daily activities focus on trimming the vines, mowing grass, weeding and installing wires etc for the rows of vines. A typical day in the vineyard: Normally, a breakfast around 08:30-09 with a planning of the day. That would be followed by activities decided upon during breakfast from 09:30 to 12. From 12:00-13:30 it's time for lunch, followed by vineyard activities until 16:00. All in all that would sum up to 5 hours vineyard activities a day About accommodation: You will have a dedicated, newly refurbished flat in the lower part of the main house. It has 5 rooms and it's own entrance to a beautiful, very large garden, and a washing machine for laundry. It consist of a living room, kitchen, WC/shower, bedroom and a hall. It can accommodate 2 or 3 people. One double bed in the bedroom and a sleeping sofa in the living room. About food/meals: I will buy in food etc for breakfast and lunch and dinner. As the flat has its own kitchen it is easy to prepare ones own food there, but it would be really nice if we make dinner together whenever that is possible. Activities: In and around the vineyard, you can go for a swim on a private beach, go fishing for salmon or other fishes next to the garden. Relax and sunbath. You can go hiking in beautiful nature, or explore one of the picturesque wooden towns in the area. Nearest shops are around 5-10 minutes with a bike.

Hello everyone! I don't know where to begin writing this review because my experience at Nicolay was indescribable. I spent two weeks in August in the wonderful apartment that Nicolay offers his guests and I always felt right at home, but with a much more beautiful view! The work was very interesting because I was able to learn how to care for the smaller vines, removing weeds and choosing the strongest seedlings, as well as the older ones, creating their own designs with a stapler and Nicolay's precious advice. I also had the opportunity to cut the grass between the vines and build the outside of the fireplace; it was so much fun! The working hours are just right, from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm and from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm, but always with music and snack breaks that make everything even more enjoyable. Nicolay is a truly generous and helpful person. In fact, almost every day, after work, we planned an experience that would allow me to experience life as a true Norwegian: we fished, picked mushrooms and blueberries, rode the MTV in the forest, hiked in the mountains, swam in the lake, and enjoyed the wonderful landscapes surrounding the vineyard. I also had the opportunity to meet two of Nicolay's wonderful friends, with whom we played cards and had a wonderful time. I'm truly grateful to Nicolay for giving me this wonderful experience, and I really hope to return in the future. So if you're looking for a spot to live the true Norwegian experience, then this is the place for you!

I had an amazing week at Nicolay’s beautiful vineyard, learning the step by step of building a wire system for the plants. Besides the interesting work, which took up to around 6 hours per day, we also had plenty of time to enjoy the nature. Nicolay lent us his paddle board to enjoy the river alongside the property, took us out on a ride in his boat and for a lovely drive through the area. I was traveling by public transport and all worked out great. There is a train station just 10 minutes down the road and Nicolay came to pick me up there. The apartment is a cozy space in the basement of the house. I arrived at the same time as another girl my age. One of us slept in the bedroom and the other on the sofa bed in the living room. I would love to come back when the vineyard is fully up and running, thankyou Nicolay for taking such good care of us!
