Smallholding and market garden for vegetable lovers
Vestfold og Telemark
WE DON’T NEED MORE HELP FOR THE 2025 SEASON 😊
Hi! We're Kristoffer (36) and Ingeborg (36), and we live on a small farm called Eikeli were we grow a lot of different vegetables and herbs, and are about to establish a small food forest. We're situated in the countryside in the south east of Norway surrounded by farmland and patches of forrest, with the Oslo fjord only a few kilometers away.
We live here with two lovely cats, called Batman and Vilma, 6 hens and a rooster. Every other week we also have Kristoffer's two kids in the house, Tuva (12) and Live (8). We moved here in 2022, and since then we've put up a greenhouse and many raised garden beds on a piece of land that was just gravel. It was a lot of work, but it was totally worth it when we got to harvest loads of tomatoes, eggplant, peppers, cabbages, watermelons and other greens only a few months after. We also built a chicken coop and hatched 4 cute chickens. They love to free range in the garden and look for worms in the flower beds. We also refurbished an old trailer, which we use for pre-cultivation and packing of vegetables. In 2023 we sold our first vegetables from the market garden, and for the years to come we're hoping to offer organic vegetables and herbs to people in the area. In 2025 we're expanding our vegetable growing area on one of our neighbours land, and hope to grow even more tasty vegetable the next season.
Our goal is to bring more diversity and vitality to the soil and animal life here, and be able to feed both ourselves and the nearby community more sustainable food. We also find joy in learning new skills that makes us more self sufficient, and teach others to do the same. Our way of farming is inspired both by permaculture and biodynamic farming, where we like to observe nature and try to take into consideration all of the lifeforms surrounding us.
Ingeborg traveled a lot in her twenties, and enjoyed seeing now places, learning about other cultures and meeting new people. After doing a permaculture design course and some volunteering on farms in Spain and Portugal, she was happy to settle down for a calmer and greener lifestyle. She attended a year-long program for new market gardeners, and then started to grow here on Eikeli. She also loves to photograph and pick mushrooms.
Kristoffer has found a love for baking, and bakes up tasty sourdough breads every week. He spends the weekdays in Horten at his job, but in his spare time he's a handyman who likes fixing stuff and building with timber.
During covid we wanted a new hobby and bought ourselves an old Swedish sailboat without knowing how to sail. But after a lot of trial and error we now know how to make our way comfortably across the fjord. Maybe you'll have the chance to join us for an afternoon while you're here?
Both Ingeborg and Kristoffer was raised on farms in the area, and we both love the feeling of cooking with home grown vegetables. We're both vegetarians and we're happy to do some cooking together in our kitchen or outside while you're here. Other times you'll get ingredients so you can prepare your food in the cabin.
On the weekdays you will mainly be working with Ingeborg, who's in charge of the market garden and grows food for the family. We will be working together in the garden sowing vegetables, watering, making compost, pruning, weeding, harvesting, preserving vegetables and storing them. Sometimes we'll also go to pick berries or mushrooms in the woods nearby, build a fence or some other structure, or do some maintenance. We'll be starting around 9 in the morning, with a a lunch break around noon, hopefully in the sun outside, and then continue for a few more hours before you're done for the day and can relax or explore the area.
You will stay in your own little cabin on the most quite space on our land. It's surrounded by old oak trees and has it's own terrace, fridge and stove top. Our two cats get fed and sleep in the cabin from time to time, so it's best if you're OK with them being there as well. A tap with cold water is available right outside the door. You can use the bathroom, shower or wash clothes in our house when needed. There's also free wifi available.
If you want to explore the neighbourhood you can borrow a bicycle. We also have other hiking/outdoor equipment available.
We also have a BBQ and a pizza oven.
The bus to Oslo and other small cities around is 3 km away. There's also a nice beach by the sea 3 km away. You can also explore nearby woods right from where we live.
Just so it's clear, we only have space to host one wwoofer at a time =)

My time in Eikeli was absolutely wonderful. I didn’t just find a place to learn, be fascinated, and unwind – I also found a place that truly felt like coming home. Inga and Kristoffer are fantastic hosts who genuinely make an effort to be there for you, even during the busiest times, ensuring you have a great stay.
If you are open-minded and curious, there is so much to learn here – about vegetables, farming, the hard work and passion behind it all, and even about life itself. I can wholeheartedly recommend this vegetable farm with everything that comes with it and wish all future WWOOFers a fantastic time! :)

My stay at Ingeborg and Kristoffer‘s farm has been my first wwoofing experience and it was really nice! During the two weeks the tasks were very diverse, from vegetable growing, composting, creating a stone path for the new bed, preserving food and much more. There was also enough free time to explore the area and for activities together. I particularly enjoyed picking mushrooms and the sailing boat tour (even if there was hardly enough wind). I also really enjoyed doing puzzles in the evenings, sometimes with the help of Live :)
I received a very warm welcome and was able to learn a lot about sustainable agriculture and food preservation because we spent most of the time working together. Kristoffer was also always on hand to answer questions about baking bread. We also dared to make sourdough cinnamon buns one evening :)
I can recommend a stay to anyone who is looking for a wholesome norwegian farm experience!
Looking forward to stopping by when I'm in the area again :)

I spent three wonderful weeks with Ingeborg and Kristoffer, where I felt very welcome. The work was diverse, ranging from harvesting various vegetables to planting a tree and assisting with the farm stand. Throughout the day, we shared many enjoyable conversations, giving me a deeper insight into Norwegian culture, for example. And trust me, you must try the tacos!
I am deeply grateful for this first WWOOFing experience and the unforgettable memories we created together. Who knows, maybe our paths will cross again someday. ;)"

I spent two weeks at Eikeli and it was a great experience! From foraging in the woods to preparing beds and taking care of the vegetables - the days were always varied and working with Inga was easy and fun. She not only taught me a lot about building a market garden but took me to her favorite places and provided me with useful travel tips around Norway.
Thanks again Inga & Kristoffer for the lovely dinners and inspiring chats, for taking me on my very first regatta and introducing me to Norwegian "taco culture" ;-) You created some unforgettable memories and I would love to come back some day!

This was my first time volunteering, and it was amazing. I 100% recommend volunteering on this farm. The couple is very kind; Inga taught me a lot about farming, and Kristopher taught me tons of different recipes (his breads are amazing, by the way). Today, I am leaving their farm, but I am taking with me all the new experiences and memories from my stay
