Hi! I'm Heidi (35) and I live full time on the farm together with my husband James (34) and our baby. My mother Hannele (59) who lives close by runs the farm with us. We are on our fifth year of living here. The farm house was originally built in the 1850-1880s and is located in a village that is traced back to the stone age. You can visit historical burial mounds and sacred sites from the bronze and iron age withing walking distance from the farm. We chose to move here to be close to the wild of nature, to keep heritage sheep and to preserve old wisdom of stewarding land as well as (slowly but surely) incorporating new, modern ways of thinking. The farm is certified organic through Debio. We are enthusiastic about animal welfare and no-till farming, and work to incorporate elements of permaculture design. We would love to learn from you! We have 27 sheep, 10 ducks, and plan to get chickens again once we have built a new chicken coup. The animals live outside all year, but have access to the barn in winter. Sheep meat and skins are for sale. We may slaughter on site for our own use, both sheep and birds. We forage berries and mushrooms in the forest, as well as herbs. Local hunters hunt deer for us so we are basically sustained on meat. In the spring and summer we fish in the sea. The nature and weather conditions can be rough, but it definitely makes you feel alive! Eagles, foxes, wild birds, deer, seals, otters can all be spotted regularly. If you brave the cold you are welcome to take a dip from our beach, or enjoy hikes along the coast or in the mountains that surround us. The beach is also a popular spot for wind surfing. Woofing has been important experiences for me personally and I would love to be able to give back to this community as a host and hopefully keep learning together. We will try to accomodate your wishes when it comes to the work you would like to do, however this is very dependent on the season so please show understanding for that. Potential tasks: - duck feeding and duck house cleaning - sheep feeding and caring - lambing : check-ups on ewes and lambs, observations, feeding +++ - looking after sheep on the pasture - moving sheep between pastures - pruning, weeding, sowing, planting, cutting etc in veggie gardens - pond digging for ducks - chopping firewood - harvesting hay by traditional methods (July) - assisting in sheep shearing (may-June ) - wool work; sorting wool, combing, etc. - fence maintenance (March-April) - lauvving (harvesting branches/leaves) (May-June) - canning, fermenting, making jams, butchering ++ (August-September) We love all crafts and homesteading skills, and can teach you knitting, crocheting, weaving on peg loom, drop spindle, felting wool rugs ++ if you are interested in such. (And if there is time - likely not in July😆) 2026: Extra projects: Building a shed/small garage, possibly putting up a greenhouse. Would love to host a wwoofer with interest in gardening as we plan ondoing quite a bit of work in the garden this spring (2026). Woofers are expected to be respectful, tidy and keep the spaces clean . We have one bedroom that can accomodate for 2-4 woofers (2 big beds). Bathroom will be shared. We will provide 3 meals a day and will ask that you help prepare these some days. There will not necessarily be fixed work hours but you will be given tasks to complete. Woofers must be genuinely interested in taking part in the farm lifestyle and we will make weekly and day-to-day plans. Flexibility is not only appreciated but essential for the farm to function well. Soo are you interested in assisting a chatty family in rural Norway with gardening, animal husbandry and small building projects, all while soaking in amazing mountain views, as you eat home-made waffles and listen to the sound of the ocean...? 💚 WELCOME TO MIDTBØ! 💚

The two weeks I spent at Midtbø Farm with Heidi, James and Hannele were exactly what I dreamed my woofing experience in Norway would be like. They are extremely openhearted and funny people who enjoy life and invite you to enjoy it with them. Everyday was fun, we worked and ate together - I have never eaten so well at any other farm to date! There was also enough time to relax and chill and explore the beautiful area around the farm. Thank you again for having me and making this such a nice experience! I hope to see you all again ☺️

It's with a very warm feeling that I write this review. Since the first evening I felt at home,, because Heidi, James and Hannele are such a warm, welcoming people. We worked hard with the hay, but we worked all together and this was fine. Working with the hay was the most important job....but I helped for example also with picking berries, making bundles of birch branches ( for the sheep in the winter, they like it very much) and a little bit of weeding. There were moments of working and there were moments of relaxation. There was time to read a book, going to walk or make a bike tour (the area is very beautiful). In the weekend we even took a boat trip to go fishing. The atmosphere between Heidi, James, Hannele and the other wwoofers was very nice and we had a lot of fun together. We could participate in the meals and we ate very well. Breakfast, lunch and dinner, we ate always together. On that way we had a lot of interesting conversations and,we have laughed a lot. I have such beautiful memories at staying in Midtbø. I certainly hope and want to come back.

I wanted to thanks Heidi et Hannele again for my lovely 3 weeks stay. It was an amazing first experience with incredible people. The tasks were varied : garden work, barn/duckhouse cleaning, paint, tinker, lambing... so many interresting things ! I have spend a wonderful time with them and even on my days off : riding a bike, go on a hike, visit Forde et Floro... I have ate so well and I felt really welcomed :) Merci pour tout mesdames !

I had an amazing Easter week with Heidi, her mom and another wwoofer. They were very open, flexible and kind. Heidi is very nice person and goes out of her way to make the stay as pleasant as possible for visitors. She deeply cares for ecological farming and animals and it is so nice to see and become a part of. Apart from working on the farm and catering for visitors, Heidi took the woofers on other activities such as frisbee golf and a meal with a friend - we even got an easter egg. Thank you, thank you so much, Heidi!

As someone else wrote in their review (Fred): "amazing place, better people." Midtbø is a beautiful farm located in an amazing area. However, I feel that what makes Midtbø really special is the people; Hannele, Heidi, and James are great hosts and even better people. With them, I learned a bit about farming, sustainability, and different cultures from around the world (especially Norwegian culture). I enjoyed the various works at the farm, the company, the food, and the freedom they gave me. Moltes gràcies!

We've spent amazing days in Midtbo! Heidi and James have been very kind to us and we felt very welcomed since the very beginning. The days passed so quickly because of the work and how it wasn't very tough we could help at home too. We also had the opportunity to have some rest days to see the town or go on the hikes, definitely an amazing place with such beautiful views. Indeed it is an excellent experience that we recommend and Heidi and James are the perfect hosts :D Thank you so much!
