Family farm
Troms og Finnmark
Hi!!
We are a family of 3, living on an old farm in the north of Norway.
Our goal is to be self sufficient as much as possible.
We are not there yet, but working on it little by little.
We use permaculture methods to grow vegetables and we have a bunch of chickens running around, providing us with eggs as well as fertilizing the soil.
We fish in the fjord and pick herbs, mushrooms and berries in nature.
We use traditional methods to preserve the food for the long winter season. We also make natural medicine.
We chop wood in our own forest, and collect materials for natural building projects.
We try to live in a way that pays respect to Mother Earth, and try to learn from her ways.
Our farm is situated in the south of Troms, Northern Norway, in a beautiful, peaceful, clean and fresh area, between fjords and mountains, and with more trees than people. Winter is long and summer is short and intense.
Being self sufficient in the arctic is a great challenge, but it was the way for most people here only 70 years back in time, and it can be done.
We try to learn the traditional ways of doing things, but also use "new" methods such as permaculture, which has benefited us a lot.
Besides running our farm, we are engaged in art and crafts, therapy, shamanism, meditation and a down-to-earth spiritual approach to life.
As you will be part of our daily family life for the time staying here, it is important for us that you share the same deep respect for Mother Earth and maybe some interest in the deeper aspects of life.
We are looking for a mature, self-going person or couple, preferably with some previous experience in either farming or carpentry. But a practical mindset and willingness to learn by doing is also good.
Creative/innovative disposition is also very welcome, as we often need to invent solutions as we go.
We are ourselves learning day by day how to do the things that needs to be done, to get where we aspire to go, and we are happy if you have some skills or knowledge to share with us.
The accommodation is a small cabin in our garden. It is suitable for one person or a couple. There is electricity, but no water. It is basically a bedroom/ private hangout.
Kitchen, toilet and bathroom is in the main house.
OBS!! As we use the hut for nursing small seeds in the spring, we cannot host wwoofers until mid june.
And we are not able to host anyone during winter (november-may)
Organic methods: We use permaculture/ regenerative methods to grow our vegetables.
We use bokashi and regular cold composting to produce soil. We also gather seaweeds and manure and compost this for fertilizing.
Our chickens run free during summer and eat grass, herbs and insects.
We also use them to prepare the ground before planting.
Certifications: We grow ecologically, but our farm is not commercial, so we haven´t considered paying to get a certification.
Food: We eat a lot of meat and fish and eggs as well as what grows in our garden. If you are vegetarian, you have to be prepared to cook :-)
Current projects: We are just finishing our new greenhouse.
We will be digging ditches for draining water.
We need to paint and do maintenance on the house and barn.
Every year we prepare new areas for growing vegetables and herbs, using permaculture principles for making fertile soil.
*OBS!! From july 28.-august 6 th we will be doing a project at a festival. We are therefore looking for someone who will be willing and able to take care of our animals and plants while we are gone. It would be nice if you could come one or two weeks in advance, to get to know us and the farm before we leave. *
Our year is generally like this:
In the winter we go in the forest and cut trees for burning and building.
In the spring (april-june) we plant seeds and nurse small sprouts
In june we prepare soil and plant out sprouts and seeds
During summer (june-august) we take care of the garden and build stuff.
In the fall (september-october) we harvest the gifts from earth and preserve for the winter.
Internet access available
Mark: We hibernate during winter, and will usually not answer requests until around february :-)

August 2025
10/10 experience. Felt at home immediately at the farm. Very kozy and beautiful place and the family is very chill and down to earth. They inspired me a whole lot. Loved to have my own little cabin to sleep in. Loved to take care of the chickens and vegetables. The surrounding area is absolutely stunning. The forest just minutes away by foot, where I found mushrooms and berries. And very close to the sea where I went to swim almost every day. The neighbours are also super friendly and helpful. The family has inspired me to make water kefir, sourdough bread, start woodworking and reading greek mythology. Will definitely be back! <3

October 2024
To every wwoofer who reads this, if you have the chance to visit, work and live with this family - you better take it otherwise you will miss on something wonderful. We stayed for 10 days in October at the Farm and home of Linn, Einar and their daughter Alida and we couldn’t wish for a better experience. During that time we had different tasks e.g.: we prepared the fields for the winterseason and helped with cleaning the chicken house such as tidying up the barn. We also learned a lot about farming and a self sufficient lifestyle. We slept in a private wooden cabin which was very cozy and warm although the temperatures were quite low on the outside. But apart from that, we were welcomed with open arms and really felt like being a part of their loving and warm hearted family. The memories we made here are beyond words and we are forever grateful for the beautiful time we had with you guys.

I had a lovely, chill few days on Linn and Einar's beautiful farm. I would have loved being able to stay longer! I did weeding, a bit of painting, and had plenty of time to go for walks and explore the beautiful landscape. I also met a few of the neighbours, whose warm behaviour really felt like a blessing. Thank you so much, and good luck with everything!

February 2024
We had the most wonderfull and grouding experience with Linn, Einar and Alida. We were greeted with open arms and an open heart. And we're welcomed in their beautiful farm and home. During our stay we learned a lot about caring for the garden, the chickens and the land. But also caring for mother earth and each other. An experience that will stay with us for a lifetime. If you are looking for deepening your experiences with gardening, permaculture, herbs and sustainable living but also want to grow on a personal and spiritual level, these inspiring loving humans will greet you with open arms.

I have spent two weeks with Einar and Linn and can honestly say that it was an amazing time that I will never forget.
Their farm is located nearby a beautiful fjord, surrounded by lots of nature and mountains, which makes the area there quite magical. During my time there, I learned a lot about self-sufficiency, organic farming, food preservation off-grid living and MANY more interesting topics. Einar and Linn are always happy to share their wisdom, which is really beneficial for any Wwoofer interested in this. But even more outstanding is the fact that during my stay there, I authentically felt like being a part of their family! I was openly welcomed there from the start and felt SO comfortable during my entire stay. We shared a lot of beautiful moments together like watching the northern lights, going fishing, sitting by a campfire, being in a Fjordsauna or collecting mushrooms. It was a truly enriching experience that is hard to describe in words. Also, I had the privilege to spent much time with their AMAZING daughter Alida, who was really fun to be around - we watched some of the Harry Potter movies and also played many board games, which I really enjoyed :)
The gratitude that I feel for my stay there is beyond words. I can highly recommend their farm to anyone! I wholeheartedly wish them all the best for their future and would certainly love to visit them again!
Tusen takk for alt! :) I already miss you guys!

I had the most amazing time at Linn and Einar’s family farm. They are the most amazing, welcoming and kind family. I instantly felt good !
Among their many projects, the central one is to grow vegetables and raise chicken to be self sufficient. I learnt a lot about how to grow vegetables organically, raise and befriend chicken and to built a chicken fence. The work is very interesting and you will spend most of your time outside ! If you like to cook, the place is also very nice with very good products to play with in the kitchen !
You will have plenty of time to discover the stunning surroundings, Gratangen is amazingly pretty especially with good weather if you are lucky :)
You will also have a private little cabin as a room which is super nice and has a very beautiful view.
I warmly thank Linn, Einar and their amazing daughter for the 12 amazing and fun days I spent with them ! I hope I will see you again :)
