Farm
Innlandet
Farm- This is a new project on a very old farm. We are talking about a pioneering project! The focus is rewilding and biodiversity. While we grow our own food, the well-being of the forest and other wild and domestic creatures is also super important.
The activities vary a lot! We care for the animals, make fences and compost, plant trees and wooding for next winter, harvesting herbs berries and vegetables. We are establishing a forest garden with ‘fedges’, a mix of a hedge and a fence, and we are organically restoring the house and barn. We have two woolly pigs here who act as natural tractors, weeding and preparing the ground. We also have a horse and a pony who are really important in their grazing, and are lovely to be with but we hope to train them also to pull hay making equipment so are looking out for people with experience to help us .
We usually have a range of courses which include herbal walks, organic building, storytelling in nature, seed sharing, carbon capture in regenerative agriculture and introduction to Permaculture. If you come to live on the farm you are welcome to join the courses. We would like you to be a creative part of the development of the farm but you will also need to help with the practical running of courses and welcoming guests.
No-one has been living full time on this farm for 50 years, so things are very basic. The buildings are 200 years old and very cute and old-fashioned. There is electricity and internet but heating is by wood stoves and cooking on gas. There is an outside toilet but we now have water in the house though showering is restricted to once a week.
Sustainability is king here so we ask people to travel in a more sustainable way:)
Local area: We are 10 minutes drive from the station and the shop, which is 1 hour from Oslo. It’s a very friendly neighbourhood with quite a lot of artists, and people pop by for a chat which is not so usual in Norway!
Accommodation: You will have your own bedroom, but sometimes sharing and we share kitchen and food-making. I work as The Natural Storyteller, so some of the time I am away during the day and you will need to be able to manage your own time. I have three grown up children who work with herbs, theatre and sustainable transport. They like to visit with their children, and there is plenty of social interaction which you are free to join if you wish. There is a group of people who are supporting the farm who atr living here and helping at times.
We also invite groups like Extinction Rebellion, the Permaculture organisation and some other spiritual groups to come and use the farm as inspiration and a place to work. Check our website or Facebook for latest news!
Certifications: We are not certified but are lucky that the farm has been used for grazing with very little fertilizer in the past. We of course have no use of artificial fertilizer og pesticides.
Current projects: We have restored several parts of the farm with as little use of new materials as possible. We have several brilliant craftspeople to help us.
The forest garden is underway and as well as all the edible trees bushes and plants we have just established a labyrinth inside it,
We have been pruning the ancient apple trees and berry bushes. Collecting many herbs and making a Herbarium to note the different flowering species growing here. We also learn to use a scythe for cutting the grass to maintain the flower meadows and dry and store the hay for the winter. We are making dams to slow down the water in the streams.
This is a massive voyage of discovery!

I think that there is so much to learn about yourself on this farm, especially because changing environment for the winter in norway is really confrontating. But I managed to adapt and had an amazing time with the group of volunteers. I had sometimes trouble knowing what I could help with in the farm. I guess it might be easier for someone that is confortable with taking initiative.
I am grateful for the knowledge I gained

I stayed about a month in October at Opsal Gård and had a wonderful time! It was my first wwoof experience and I can really recommend staying there! Georgiana was such a welcoming host and a lovely person and I was lucky to get to listen to many of her stories and I enjoy her company very much. I really enjoyed my work there, we worked alot in the vegetable garden and outside in general and it never got boring. The daily care of the horses brought me a lot of joy too!
The house can get a bit cold but with a warm wool sweater and a hot waterbottle at night it’s no problem!
The landscape around the farm was stunning.
I hope to go back again sometime!

I had an amazing time at Opsal Gård and felt at home almost immediately. Geo is a very welcoming person and knows how to host! We shared all our meals together and with always other woofers around there was always something going on.
The work was very diverse and we could all bring our own ideas and wishes in to planning the work days. From taking care of the animals, working in the garden or hosting a bumble bee event there was lots to do and lots to explore.
The surrounding was absolutely beautiful and I enjoyed spending my time there in a very calm and green place.

I had a wonderful time in this farm and Georgiana made me feel at home. Georgiana, the other woofers and I shared so many great moments : meals, music jams, sharing stories, deep conversations, opening ourselves to nature, looking after horses and chicken ...
There's so much work to do in the farm, and the spectrum of the tasks is really large. I learned a lot, and I got to delve into the areas that interested me.
Beautiful surroundings, so peaceful.
Thank you so much !

My stay at Opsal Gård was absolutely beautiful. For one, Nature is living there in it's complete wilderness thanks to Geo's deep care for it. Biodiversity is really important there and I experienced it concretely for the first time. A real opening to a better understanding of the world!
I felt welcomed there as in a family; sharing meals, living together in this incredible farm house, laughing, playing, going on small trips...
Geo has this unique capacity to create a safe and welcoming atmosphere, and is incredibly generous with her time, her knowledge, her interest in people and whatever we would need to work or go on trips.
Finally, I loved the diversity of the work: with vegetable gardens, doing compost, working with wood, going dumpster diving, taking care of horses, replanting trees,...
(NB: Opsal is only at around 1h by train from Oslo, which can be handy).
I whish to Opsal Gård and Geo to keep on inspiring people, helping Nature takes its own place, and spreading seeds of change. ☀️

Georgiana was a lovely host, with deep environmental concerns. I had a wonderful time over there and I wish I could have stayed a bit more ! There is always things to do over there, but still plenty of time to enjoy the nature, and the landscape !
