We are a small group of people running a small farm with many different productions. In winter we have 70 sheep, horses, and 4-5 cows . We are not vegetarian, sometimes we slaughter animals. We try to maintain the landscape we live in, in a way that gives room to all kind of animal, insects and plants. Here you can view our farm on Google Earth: https://earth.google.com/web/search/sparstad/@61.14608687,8.56374228,498.9943382a,0d,60y,18.24341477h,91.38035803t,0r/data=CigiJgokCeoLqo_GnE5AERGw9ywsl05AGVWi7dd1NCFAIckuvwpd-SBAIhoKFk9GeFBSRG5jNkxHbm5aTjRXbm9lWEEQAg Organic methods: Focus on variety on natural terms. Certifications: We are a mixed group and do not fit in anywhere. Current projects: We are restoring a stream for irrigation purposes and repairing old houses all year long. In the different seasons we focus on: - winter: Feeding animals, preparing firewood for the winter, maintaining houses, maybe fixing fish nets spring: lambing season, gardening (sowing, planting, weeding) , fixing fences - summer: Hay harvesting, gardening, fishing in the lake - summer farm: We have some micro tourism with cows, cheesemaking up in the mountains. Here Jan's sister is the boss. Sometimes we work together and our WWOOFers take part in this. - autumn: Harvesting vegetables and potatoes, processing food (pickling, sauerkraut, chili sauce, meat products) gathering sheep from the mountains, Everyone on the farm take their turn making dinner.. ( we don´t have a housewife ;-) ) We eat breakfast, lunch and dinner together but sleep in different houses. How to get here: take the Valdresekspressen (bus) from Oslo Airport or Oslo Bussterminal to Hugavike. We can pick you up at the bus stop. See https://www.nor-way.no/ruter/valdresekspressen/ for the time schedules and purchasing tickets. Internet access available

I stayed two and a half months at jan’s farm, and I highly recommend everyone to discover this wonderful person and this beautiful farm. Yann and his wife are very welcoming people you can truly feel their passion for their work and their kindness. I thank them again for this amazing experience I had, and perhaps I’ll come back one day. Paul

I had an absolutely great time at Jan's farm. Jan and Tanaquil are lovely are very welcoming, and I learned a lot about farm work ! From taking care of the animal, wood work and repairing fences, the work is diverse and fulfilling. I felt right at home in the farm, we shared meals and moments together, with the liberty to do what you please in the down times and beautiful surroundings to explore There are many people coming by and I got to meet many interesting and lovely people throughout my stay. I cannot recommend this place enough !

My stay with Jan and Tanquil was not very long (about 2 weeks). Nevertheless the both of them made it a very special experience. The honest interest in the wwoofers, the patience while explaining new tasks and sharing stories at the dinner table, made me feel at home very fast. They invited me in their home with open arms and shared their way of living in an authentic way. It truly was a great experience, even tho time passed way to quickly! I highly recommend coming to this lovely farm, learn new things and spend time with these kind people.

My first WWOOFing experience could not have been better! I spent three amazing weeks at Sparstad with Jan and Tanaquil, and from the very first day, they made me feel like part of the family. The atmosphere in the house is so warm and full of good vibes. I learned so much while still having time to enjoy the beautiful scenery. I especially loved our shared meals and the inspiring conversations we had. And I have to say, I already miss their dog so much! She was the best companion. I really hope to come back and visit you all again one day! Maybe then Jan and I can have a second attempt at making mozzarella – hopefully, this time it will be perfect! Tusen takk! <3

My stay at Jan’s farm in Vangsmjøse was a highlight of my solo trip. Jan is a great host, very patient and genuinely educational when explaining how the farm works. He really lets you see what a traditional way of life looks like in this part of Norway. The setting by the lake is impressive, but it’s the quiet, authentic atmosphere that stands out. It felt less like a tourist stay and more like an honest look at rural living. I highly recommend it if you’re traveling alone and looking for a peaceful, meaningful experience.

Jan and Tanaquil were amazing hosts, I would highly recommend them. Firstly, they were so kind to accommodate me staying for just a brief week —although I wish it could have been longer. Even though my stay was brief they still made a great effort to connect me with their projects and provided me with opportunities for learning, I think that this is really exceptional. A big thing that stood out to me about Jan, Tanaquil and their community is their welcoming and trustworthy nature —because of this I think everyone can find something special here for them. Thank you so much for a very special week, I hope to return to Sparstad in the near future :)
