Hi! I am Ane, 46 years old and a big enthusiast of everything living and growing. I have a small farm in the hillsides of Midtre Gauldal, Norway. Here I have plenty of projects, only two hands and not enough daylight hours in the day to do them all by my self. :D Also, I love working together with others. I think this is because I grew up on a farm and the days consisted of trailing my dad around helping him with various work. Also I was fortunate enough to experience how it was like when the extended family came together to work on tasks such as "hesjing", which was the traditional way of drying grass on Norwegian farms to secure the food for the animals over winter. I have a cat, Laffen. I will in time have mohair goats and a small flock of icelandic chickens. This year is also the small beginnings of a market garden. I also do some foraging for plants and mushrooms for food and to use for handicraft and other purposes so this will also be an activity, depending on what is in season. I´ve worked for several years as a professional forager and I´ve held a lot of courses in foraging, so if this is one pf your interests, I´d be glad to share this activity with you. I do quite a bit of traditional and more experimental/ modern preparing and conserving of ingredients like baking of traditional flatbread, kimchi, kombucha, beer brewing and my latest try was with the slavic bread-based drink kvass, but this I have not mastered yet :) I make most of my spreads my self and all the vegetables and berries I grow and forage have to be preserved in different ways, so I make a lot of sauces, pickles and cordial amongst other things. I am working toward so called self- sufficiency, but as someone wise so poignantly pointed out: there´s no such thing as self -sufficiency: we will forever need the community and collaboration with others in this.
I would like to have a couple of periods this summer with people staying. I love sustainable living , foraging, food, laughing, music, animals, history, crafting and repairing and I would be happy to share any of these passions with you. A stay of maximum two weeks per person (or couple) will be perfect this year. In august/ september the vegetables will be taken from the garden and prepared to be sold and also conserved in different ways.
The concrete projects on the farm at the moment are repairing the fence around the property so the neighbours sheeps can be let in to graze, the soil in the market garden will be prepared, beds made, plant from the green house planted out, some plants sown directly and potatoes and onions set. I have a few apple trees and berrybushes that I will move from the place they are in now to another spot and I will start prepared the lot they were in for an extension of the market garden by covering the ground for a few seasons. Might also get time to start furnishing the rooms for the chickens and goats this summer/autumn.
I work in an 80% position so I will be away from morning to around 16 four days a week. We will therefore work together in the afternoon two days a week and on Saturday, Sunday and Monday (which is my day off). Dinner is a meal it is nice to regularly have together. It is also nice to take turns cooking or cook together when we feel like it.
My place is situated on a hillside in the countryside with the wilderness close by. Forests and hills all around and there is a lot of walking trails to explore in a close distance. The river is a hike away and has a nice bathing spot. The farm is 10 minutes by car from the closest village so transport is necessary to amenities there. A bus service passes close to my place two times a day that will take you to corresponding transport (bus and rail) to for example Trondheim, Røros or Oppdal. I also drive to Støren for work and this is where all the buses and trains goes from so you can get a lift there.
The accommodation is a two storey wooden building with the bedroom on the second floor and a "living room" in the first. There is no kitchen or bathroom in this building so you will use the kitchen and bathroom/shower in my house. There is two entrances and partitions to my house so you can use the bathroom without disturbing -or being disturbed.
I have to mention that the reviews are from me being an host at my former property, so bear in mind some things (like the accomodation) has changed.
