Flower Garden Farm
Vestland
I invite four wwoofers to my small farm, Skarstein gard in beautiful Kandal in Nordfjord. This is a valley on the western side of Norway. Some of the farmers in this steep valley have goats and sheep. I have puppies! ..and a large garden with fruits, berries and herbs which is in the making. Another task on the farm is to rescue a very old barn in the mountains where we used to spend summers with our goats . So if you are interested in gardening and carpentry, we will have some active weeks together! Sparetime activities: fishing, hiking, boating. Accomodations: your own guesthouse with two separate bedrooms, livingroom, kitchen and bathroom. Shared meals in the main house on the farm. Welcome!

My time at Astrid's farm was wonderful! We did some work in the garden, cutting the plants, sorting potatoes and bringing dirt from one place to another. Astrid was open to a lot of our input and helped also with possibilities of fun things to do in the neighbourhood. We went dancing with the neighbour, saw the local gym and did a hike in a valley nearby. There was a lot of free time, possibilities to go for a swim, a hike or use some of the instruments that Astrid has for Wwoofers.
Astrid herself is a very warm and welcoming person, tells a lot of stories and a great cook.
I could really recommend going to her farm, maybe she will take you to the Lofoten or Oslo as well.

To Astrid and anyone that reads that:
I had two wonderful weeks in Skarstein Gard. The open arms of Astrid welcomed me from the very first moment. The daily business, the house and barn, the work on the farm and everything around was pure joy. Everyday was different and we had fun and lots of laughter. It didn't feel like hard work, because the harmony in this place is just amazing.
I can not wait to be back and I hope it will be soon!
Dear Astrid, thank you for everything! You are the best WWOOF-host I could ever imagine.
Many hugs,
Anna

Hatt 4 fantastisk uker på Skarstein, mye frihet til å gjøre og holde litt på som man ønsker og evner. En nydelig vert man alltid lett kan ta å snakke ordentlig med

What a very nice stay in your house in Oslo. You welcomed me as a member of your family by taking care of me, sharing me your stories and your really good meals. You are undoubtly a very good cook ! I enjoyed working in your garden for two weeks, helping you a bit to sort your pictures, and at the same time discovering the city. These were two happy weeks that allowed me to disconnect from my habits and recharge my batteries before returning to France. I hope next time I will be able to come to your farm in Skarstein as I have heard a lot of good things about it :)
Thank you very much Astrid for everything you gave me during my stay. Your smile in any circumstances and your puppy made this trip even better.

My stay at Skarstein Gard was my first wwoofing experience, and I had an absolute blast. Several weeks passed by, and I sometimes still find myself smiling while looking at the photos I took at the farm, with Astrid, with Tinkerling, and with the amazing people I had the pleasure to meet.
During my stay, there were in total around 8-13 volunteers staying at the same time. The schedule was very transparent and followed (mostly) by everyone. We typically started working at 9AM after breakfast until 2PM, then lunch was served. Afterwards, we had free time until dinner at 8PM. The work varied a lot depending on one's skills and interest. I stayed there for almost 2 weeks, and in my case, there was no day similar to another. Examples are weeding, painting, fixing tools, cutting grass, building furniture, helping out in the summer farm, fishing, etc.
Kandal is a small village with enchanting landscapes & friendly people, and Astrid always tried to make sure that we would have the best experience there, either to contribute or to learn. In my free time, there was a plenty of activities to do thanks to beautiful hiking routes around the farm and the beautiful lake. Thank you Astrid for maintaining this farm and giving us a place to experience the best time of our life. I will forever remember about my beautiful summer days at Kandal.

Once upon a time, at the end of a road lost in the Norwegian mountains, lay the small valley of Kandal. The road stops there because you won't need to go any further. You will find a breathtaking landscape, opera concerts, artisanal Brunost, goats happily roaming around, dry toilets with a view of the lake, friends who will leave a lasting impression, and Astrid, the little fairy in the flower garden. There are a thousand things to do, see, learn, and experience. Thank you for everything <3
