1. How to get here: By flight to Tromsø or by Train to Narvik and buss to Tromsø. To come here from Tromsø, you either use bus 428 or 430. Or hitchike. The busstopp is called Bråthen. 2. Are you interested of learning about growing vegetables, berries , herbs, potatoes in this arctic areas close to Tromsø ? 3. Our surrounding: We live in the land of the midnight-sun and in the land of the Northern light. Bright, clean fresh and Cold. Living in the nature, borrowing from nature- without destroying. Good area for hiking, lots to do on your spare time. We are close to city of Tromsø. 4. Food: We do seasonal and lokal food for the meals. We have one hot meal every day (dinner at about 5 pm). Traditionally norwegian eat quite mutch bread for all meals except for dinnermeal. 5. Making dinner / hot food: we make typical norwegian., seasional food. You will get chance to make some food from your place if we can get the engreedience for a useable price. Cheese is very expensive in Norway, and specially foreign cheese cost a lot. If you dont like the food you get here, you have to by alternativ option and prepare for yourselves. Staying here: Our genuine interest for organic farming made us open our home for wwoofers. We like to shere knowledge. And we experience that wwoofers can to be interested about learning and sharing their knowledge with us. You have to share beedroom with other wwoofers. All wwoofers help keeping household nice and tidy evereywhere, every day. hoowering, clining after yourselves, specially in bathroom to avoid illness. Keep your bedroom clean and tidy. Certifications: Debio Current projects: Making more areas for growing berries and herbes weeding and planting. Internet access available. Televition in one of the bedrooms. Two old bikes, very "second hand" quality. We also have a boat for rowing. If you like to do fishing, you can bring with your own fishingtools and lifebelt. And you have to pay a depose for the time you stay here for borrowing the boat. Money you will get back if the boat is well treated during your use. Travelling here: We prefare wwoofers coming here and leaving during sunday.

Bus or flight to Tromsø. Farm is 10 km from airport. Narvik got train from Sweden. Bus from Narvik to Tromsø 5 hours. I can get wwoofers from airport in daytime on sundays.

I spent two months at Arctic eco Garden. It was a very Special time with Lots of cool experiences. I learned a Lot and saw how to grow in that Northern area. I also learned much about the local culture :) I also did Nice hikes around with the other woofers. So i could reccomend it defintly if you want to learn about agriculture in the very North and if you want to learn something about local Culture. Leikny is also a very kind and wise woman.

I stayed at Leikny’s farm during the last three weeks of July. Most of the days consisted of weeding but there was also preparing the soil by getting rid of rocks and mowing grass. Some jobs were physically demanding but it was quite rewarding to see how fast the vegetables were growing. Leikny is a person with an incredible life story full of resilience and care. She shares her house with the wwoofers which creates intimate moments and bringing people even closer by inviting us in her everyday life. Things future wwoofers should know: 1) work starts at 8:00 from Monday to Friday, with a half hour break at 10:00 and an hour lunch break at 12:00. Work ends at around 14:30-15:00 depending on weather conditions and jobs fulfilled. 2) it is expected from wwoofers to cook dinner in turns and it is a moment where everyone including Leikny share a moment together. Leikny loves cooking and she prepares traditional dishes which were always delicious. She’s also a foodie so she loves trying new dishes from different parts of the world, especially from wwoofers. 3) although her farm is close to Tromsø public transportation is scarce, especially on the weekends which coincide with the wwoofers’ day off. If you want to explore the surroundings but don’t have your own means of transportation hitchhiking works very well and is safe.

I really enjoyed my stay with Leikny. She has an incredible amount of knowledge about gardening and is always willing to share it. I was especially impressed by how much passion she puts into her projects. There is always something happening, and it was inspiring to be part of it. I learned a lot and would happily stay with her again.

I had a very nice time at Leikny’s farm ! Leikny is very nice and passionate, she taught me a lot about the farm work (seeding, planting, carpenting) but also about the region and the Norwegian and Sami culture. Leikny is also a very good cooker, she cooked a lot of traditional dishes during my stay and she also love discovering new recipes from woofers or from internet ! The farm is also well situated, it is not far from Tromsø where you can take buses to explore the beautiful surroundings although their not many buses coming to the farm you have to hitchhike (which had work pretty well for me) or use the bikes to go to a bus stop with more regular buses. The house and the farm is not perfectly organized but still very cosy, i had my own room most of the time and shared it with a nice woofer for a few weeks.

I had a wonderful time at the Arctic Ecogarden in Leikny's farm! Leikny taught me so much about gardening, planting, renovation and I'm very grateful to her! She's a real encyclopedia and is always happy to share her knowledge. I learned also a lot about Norwegian culture. At this time of year, we do a lot of seed sowing and can watch the plants grow, which is very rewarding! They was still quite a bit of snow in late april/ early May so you have to be prepared for that. The view from the bedroom was beautiful as the house is directly to the see. I don't think this is the best season for hiking unless you have snow shoes to reach the mountains peaks. We were still able to hike on small hills but it was very muddy. In Kvaloya, there aren't that many accessible trails around Leikny's place but you can take the bus, drive or hitchhike to get to other cool spots. I highly recommend visiting Sommaroy (small hill, beautiful white-sand beaches and turquoise water, views on Senja island) at this time of the year! The sherpa trail in Tromso can be a bit challenging. I also really enjoyed tasting the norwegian traditions meals that Leikny prepared! I'm also very grateful to her for the effort that she put into preparing vegetarian meals, since it's not really the ideal season for cooking that kind of food. What I liked a bit less was the lack of organization, which caused a few problems when it came to getting things done. PS: Don't rely too much on bikes, except for short journeys.
