Are you passionate about sustainable agriculture and eager to immerse yourself in the serene beauty of the Lofoten Islands? Look no further! We're seeking enthusiastic volunteers to join our small-scale farm, nestled amidst the breathtaking landscapes of Lofoten. About Us: We are a married couple with four children, living on a small scale farm in the Lofoten islands. We bought the farm, that had not been actively farmed since the 1970s, in 2018 and accidentally startet farming. Now we are both working full time at our farm business, working to regenerate the farm and the land, selling our products to the best restaurants in the region. At our farm, we're committed to cultivating vegetables using organic principles, while also using the resources that grow in the wild nearby area. Our mission is to promote sustainable farming practices that respect both the land and the people working at the farm, and to show that it is possible to make a living from a small farm in the Arctic. 🌿Get Hands-On Experience: Dive into the world of sustainable agriculture as you spend time alongside us and the other volunteers. Whether you're sowing micro greens. harvesting veggies, packing for delivery, stacking fire wood or foraging for wild plants. you'll gain invaluable skills and knowledge. Volunteer tasks: 🌱 Assisting with planting, watering, weeding, harvesting crops and packing for delivery 🌿 Foraging for wild plants and mushrooms 🪵 Chopping fire wood 🛠️ Participating in farm clean up, building and maintenance tasks as needed 👩‍🌾 Take part in our community and help out with cooking and cleaning A typical day at the farm in the summer season may look like: 10.00: Morning meeting, tasks assignment (ex harvesting/packing vegetables) 10.15-13.00: Assigned task 13.00: Lunch at the barn 14.00-16.00: Assigned task In the winter season, the tasks are more towards tidying, cleaning up and doing building and maintenance projects on the barn and farm house. We also chop and store firewood, do snow removal, and seed starting. Requirements: 👩‍🌾 A passion for sustainable agriculture and a willingness to learn 🧳 Flexibility and adaptability to outdoors farm life 💚 Being able to take care of your self, set boundaries and tend to your own needs 🗣️ Good communication skills and a collaborative spirit ⛔️ We are a family farm with small children, and have strictly no tolerance for use of illegal drugs or openly drunkenness on the property 🧳 Minimum commitment of 4 weeks 🚗 Drivers license is a plus 👩‍🌾🧑‍🌾 Willing to take part in our volunteer community, and share a room (boys/girls separately) 🌦 Bring warm, waterproof clothes and boots; Norway can be cold and windy even in summer! We prioritize applications from volunteers who can stay for a longer period (around 6–12 weeks), as it gives us time to get to know each other, learn together, and create a richer, more meaningful experience. We provide: 🏔 Stunning Location: Wake up to panoramic views of majestic mountains, forest and the sea. Our farm is located in the outskirts of Stamsund, a small fishing village in the middle of Lofoten. Find hiking trails straight from the farm, or go swimming at the secret local beach. 15 minutes walk from the farm is a grocery store, and a little further in the village a restaurant/bar. In your free time, explore the magic of the Lofoten islands! 👩‍🌾 Community Spirit: Join a diverse community of like-minded individuals who share your passion for sustainable living. Forge meaningful connections, swap stories around the campfire, and celebrate the joys of farm life with our volunteers and seasonal staff. However, we the farmers have four kids and a busy family life , and so will very rarely participate in the social life of our volunteers outside of normal working hours. 🍽️ Farm-to-Table Cuisine: Indulge in fresh, wholesome meals made from the bounty of our farm. Our volunteers are expected to take turns cooking, and when possible we all eat lunch together at the farm. We aim to eat dinner together 1-2. times a week, and the other days the wwoofers cook together in the wwoofers house. The fridge and cupboard in the barn will be stocked with food to meet your basic needs to cook/eat three meals per day: Bread, jam, cheese, cooked hams, butter, olive oil, pasta, rice, salad/veg from the farm, etc. We are not able to cater to any special diets including vegan. 🏕 A place to sleep, eat, shower, wash your clothes... Accommodation is normally in a house that we rent for the wwoofers, two minutes walk from the farm. You can use WIFI at our farm house for basic communication needs, but we don´t have WIFI in the wwoofers house. ⛰ Lofoten's natural beauty provides the perfect backdrop for your farming adventure, offering endless opportunities for exploration and rejuvenation. 🧗‍♀️ Hiking in the mountains, climbing, fishing, swimming at the sandy beaches, kayaking.. ☀️ Long summer days, the midnight sun never setting (end of May to mid-July), northern lights (September-March), winter storms and hurricanes...

I just spent two weeks in Stamsund in January! The surroundings are beautiful, with the mountains and the sea. I really enjoyed going for walks, runs, and skiing. Unfortunately, life on the farm itself was disappointing. During the video call, I was told that there would be 6–7 volunteers, but it turned out that I was alone most of the time. I worked alone and lived alone in the volunteer house. The tasks and planning were often not clear at all, and despite asking for clarification, things remained somewhat chaotic. Gisle was patient in explaining things to me, but he was often away for several days at a time. It was nice that I was allowed to borrow their car to do activities on my own. I was also invited a few times in the evening so that I wouldn’t have to eat alone.

Thank you Pauline, for sharing your experience from your two-week stay with us in Stamsund in January. We’re very glad you enjoyed the beautiful surroundings. Winter here can be both wild and peaceful, and it’s nice to hear that you appreciated that part of your stay. We’re sorry that life on the farm felt disappointing. During your two weeks here, some expected volunteers cancelled last minute, which meant you were alone more than planned. We normally have 3-4 volunteers in the winter season and up to 6-7 in the summer, so we understand that this was not what you had expected. Winter is also a quieter season on the farm. We take your feedback about clearer planning and communication seriously and will work to improve this. Thank you again for your honest feedback. It helps us grow and improve, and we wish you all the best in your future travels and farm experiences.

This farm really is an incredible place. It was my first wwoofing experience and I would not change it for the world. The work on the farm is not difficult and quite enjoyable, you will do different tasks every day and learn a lot along the way. Personally, I mostly did some harvesting of micro greens, flowers, and vegetables, some foraging, some carpentry, and packing the orders. Gisle really has a passion for this project and it is beautiful to see. It was a privilege getting to be a part of this community, meeting all the family, and building long lasting friendships with the wwoofers. I’m so grateful for the month I spent on this farm. I could not recommend this place enough, and I hope I will be able to go back one day:)

This was such a magical stay! The time at Åshild and Gisles farm will forever be one of my favorite travel experiences. The Lofoten islands are insanely beautiful and the farm is close to bus connections and the harbour where different ferries depart/arrive. Living in the house with all the volunteers makes you feel less alone while traveling. You have to be ready for a bit of chaos but it makes the experience more authentic. Thanks so much for welcoming me!!!

Åshild et Gisle ont été très accueillants, la ferme est géniale avec un environnement idéal pour les randonnées, même en hiver ! On ne s’ennuie jamais là bas, et on peut facilement visiter les lofotens le week end.

I had a great time here. The hosts are very friendly and welcoming. All the woofers live together in a separate house, which makes for a great time. The chores are not difficult and are within everyone's reach. It's a very good farm, which is why I'm coming back after the new year.

Dear Myklevik family, my stay at your farm really was a unique, incredible and memorable experience. At first i must say i really needed time to get along and adapt to the partially chaotic way of working and living, which could demand a lot from you, mentally and physically. However, as soon as i got really into it and especially got closer to Gisle, who we worked the most with, i could actually fully embrace and enjoy the time and particularly the work. The farm is demanding a lot, there are a lot of animals and there is always a big variety of tasks that needs to be done, yet Gisle was always trying to teach, to pass on knowledge if given the opportunity and also presenting everyone individual space for their own interests, strengths and abilities. Furthermore, getting to know the kind hearted family and the beautiful people behind Myklevik Gård was a great pleasure! Also i do not want to forgot to mention the wonderful, lovely, genuine wwoofers i met during my stay, since they made the experience even better and never failed to make us all feel like a family. All in all, i cannot thank you enough for the possibilities and the opportunities i was given to not only be able to experience the magic and the beauty of lofoten but also to get to know more about my inner self, my abilities and especially my fears and doubts. Therefore, i wish you all the best for the future of Myklevik Gård, may your garden and land prosper again and i am happy to be seeing you again soon:)
