Hakkesetstølen is a small, family-owned mountain lodge located near Geilo, Norway, at the gateway to the beautiful Hardangervidda mountain plateau. We are looking for nature-loving WWOOFers for both the summer season (25 June – 15 September) and the winter season (February – May 2027). In summer, hiking and biking trails start right outside our door, with endless opportunities to explore the Norwegian mountains, lakes, and forests. During your stay, you can borrow bicycles for free and enjoy free fishing in nearby mountain lakes. In winter, we are a true ski-in/ski-out destination surrounded by snowy landscapes and cross-country ski trails. We offer accommodation for guests in ten rooms, one apartment, and four cabins, and we also run a small café on-site. Around the lodge we have a garden and small animals including chickens, rabbits, and sometimes goats. Most of our guests come from Norway, but we also welcome visitors from all over Europe and beyond. Hakkesetstølen has been operated by our family for more than 30 years, and many guests return year after year because of the warm atmosphere, peaceful surroundings, and close connection to nature. Although this is our first year joining WWOOF, we have welcomed volunteers for many years and truly enjoy meeting people from different cultures. We want our WWOOFers to experience authentic Norwegian mountain life, learn new skills, and enjoy unforgettable outdoor adventures during their stay with us. Current projects vary throughout the seasons and may include gardening, preparing the hen house, maintenance work, helping around the lodge and café, outdoor cleaning, and other daily tasks as they arise. We use composting and try to work in harmony with nature as part of our everyday life. Internet access is available.

What a wonderful experience at Hakkesetstøllen! Torild welcomed us warmly for 3 weeks in Easter season. Besides preparing the rooms and doing outside works, we highly enjoyed the outdoor nature, hiking and daily skating. The lodge is hold in a traditional norwegian way : a cosy café with sooo good waffels during the day, and nice shared diners with visitors and locals in the evening. Thank you again Torild, we had a amazing experience with you and your family. We hope you again soon! Mylène & Côme

To end the summer, my friend and I went to visit Torild. She is a very welcoming and kind person who makes us feel at home. We had the chance to do several things, such as taking care of her adorable rabbit, looking after the rooms and cleaning them, and when the weather was nice, we even had the chance to go on a boat ride on the lake and admire the beautiful surrounding scenery. I would like to thank Torild for this wonderful experience, and if we can, we will be very happy to come back, we highly recommend this place. Greetings from France :)

What a great moment with Torild in Hakkesetstølen ! Torild is a very kind simple and listening person. I stayed 3 weeks during the month of April to help her and work for the end of the winter season. The work in Hakkesetstolen need you to have a good physic condition and a good mental. During my extra time I went outside walk and skiying :) The landscape, the people I met and the time I had were awsome ! Takk Torild

Me and my girlfriend volunteered at hakkesetstølen for two weeks in July. Torild really took care of us and made us feel home instantly, she’s really sweet and loves talking. Our day usually started around 9 with breakfast with the guests, then we helped doing the breakfast dishes. Afterwards Torild told us which rooms and cabins had to be cleaned for the day. In the late morning/ at noon hakkesetstølen is a busy place so we help at the kiosk serving people and making waffles (which we both loved doing, partly because we could sometimes take a waffle for ourselves;) ). After the busy hours passed, we are free to take a break in the beautiful nature surrounding hakkesetstølen (go on the boat, making fire, going on walks, make pictures for their insta…) or helping with other tasks outside. In the evening we set the table for the guests (and ourselves, the food is very yummy, we ate the same thing as the guests), serve them and do the dishes. We will definitely miss hakkesetstølen and recommend it for the people who want to experience life in a dnt hut, get a home feeling in this amazing cozy place hakkesetstølen and meet lots of nice and adventurous people. We also met a very nice French woofer :)) Thank you for this amazing experience Torild!!!

My stay with Torild was wonderful! She is a very welcoming and warm host, who took great effort in making me feel comfortable. Hakkesetstølen is a very cosy place to work, where there is plenty of different things to do, dependent on what you like to do. The surroundings are simply magnificient, and I really enjoyed going on hikes from Hakkesetstølen or driving to the nearby Hallingsskarvet. I can definetely recommend a stay with Torild, as I myself would love to go back again.
