We are a small group of people running a small farm with many different productions. In winter we have 70 sheep, horses, and 4-5 cows . We are not vegetarian, sometimes we slaughter animals. We try to maintain the landscape we live in, in a way that gives room to all kind of animal, insects and plants. Here you can view our farm on Google Earth: https://earth.google.com/web/search/sparstad/@61.14608687,8.56374228,498.9943382a,0d,60y,18.24341477h,91.38035803t,0r/data=CigiJgokCeoLqo_GnE5AERGw9ywsl05AGVWi7dd1NCFAIckuvwpd-SBAIhoKFk9GeFBSRG5jNkxHbm5aTjRXbm9lWEEQAg Organic methods: Focus on variety on natural terms. Certifications: We are a mixed group and do not fit in anywhere. Current projects: We are restoring a stream for irrigation purposes and repairing old houses all year long. In the different seasons we focus on: - winter: Feeding animals, preparing firewood for the winter, maintaining houses, maybe fixing fish nets spring: lambing season, gardening (sowing, planting, weeding) , fixing fences - summer: Hay harvesting, gardening, fishing in the lake - summer farm: We have some micro tourism with cows, cheesemaking up in the mountains. Here Jan's sister is the boss. Sometimes we work together and our WWOOFers take part in this. - autumn: Harvesting vegetables and potatoes, processing food (pickling, sauerkraut, chili sauce, meat products) gathering sheep from the mountains, Everyone on the farm take their turn making dinner.. ( we don´t have a housewife ;-) ) We eat breakfast, lunch and dinner together but sleep in different houses. How to get here: take the Valdresekspressen (bus) from Oslo Airport or Oslo Bussterminal to Hugavike. We can pick you up at the bus stop. See https://www.nor-way.no/ruter/valdresekspressen/ for the time schedules and purchasing tickets. Internet access available

I feel extremely lucky and grateful to have been able to spend 6 weeks at Sparstad, where I had the best experience I could ever dream of. Jan is an incredible person and the farm is surrounded by a great community, so it's a great place to socialize and meet new people, most of the times sharing a very well cooked meal (food was always great!). The working tasks were very well explained and varied; I liked that every wwoofer is trusted with autonomy and responsibilities, which has definitely helped me to learn a lot. I will miss this place a lot, but I'm happy to have met a lot of fantastic people and to have seen incredible places. Tusen takk to Jan, Tanaquil and all Sparstad family, I hope I'll see you soon!

It´s a beautiful and welcoming place at Sparstad with a real WWOOFer atmosphere as we were four WWOOFers from different countries. I aprriciated a lot that they gave me a chance to come over with my six year old daughter and be a part of the community. Open and warm house, stunning landscape and a lot of interesting stories to listen to. Thank you for the experience!

So sad to leave this beautiful and quiet place, and happy to have lived such an incredible experience, full of good moments. I came here to learn new things, and I learned more than I expected: how to milk cows, how to repair a pump to have water in the house, how to make crème fraîche, how to make butter… I leave this place with a lot of new skills. Skills that I will keep for life and that I will be happy to share with others. Jan, Tanaquil and Katarina, I really appreciate your way of living, your kidness and your way of teaching. I would love to come back one day if you would like to welcome me again. It was a real pleasure to spend time on your farm. Tusen takk 🫶

Jan and Tanaquil are kind, pleasant hosts, and the farm is an excellent place to rest and work. You’ll have ample opportunity to get out and see the environment. The work, moreover, is not dull at all — there is always something to take joy in.

Absolutely incredible! I think it was the best possible first WWOOFing experience. Jan and Tanaquil were extremely welcoming and kind. I was only supposed to stay for a month, but I stayed almost two! The tasks are different every day, so you never get bored. Thanks again, Jan, for your hospitality and everything you taught me!
