The host family at the farm contsists of husband (62), wife (58), girl (33), boy (31) and boy (26). Grandmother (94) also lives at the farm. The two oldest children stays away, while the youngest will stay at the farm parts of the summer.
In our place, you will have the oportunity to participate in the farm, but also in a market garden run by my daughter, situated 1 km from the farm. As we only have aviable room at the farm, this is where you will live. You will have a own small apartment with a bathroom that are situated in our house, but will share all meals with us.
Øvre Kvam has been an organic farm since 2003. The production is milk cows, beefcattle, sheep, grain and some apple. We also have some hen and a cat. We keep some young cattle around our cottage in the mountain some 100 km away from the farm. There is also a small brewery at the farm, producing beer, cider and meed. Some of the malt and hops we use in the beer production, we produce on the farm.
The market garden is situated ca 1 km from the farm and are run by my daugther (33) and a friend of her. This is a small scale vegetale production on 2 acres that consists of around 40 different vegetales, herbs and flowers, based on sale to the local community. They also have 7 free range pigs that are fed on leftovers from the garden and leftover bread from the local food store.

Current projects:
In May we are preparing the fields, repairing fences, letting out animals. In June we harvest the gras and bring some animals to the mountain. In July we try to have some holiday, before harvest starts again in last July. In August ITS more harvesting, we start to take animals home from the pastures. In September its about the same. In between ITS always a lot of small and big tasks to do on a farm.
In the market garden you will be able to participate in the daily tasks like weeding, planting and harvesting, in addition to taking care of the pigs. We also have small building projects and are even hosting a festival for musics and activism in late august. The garden is situated close to the fjord and the forest, so there is also good opertunities to go swimming, fishing, harvesting berries and mushroom or simply enjoy a walk in the forest.
