Dun Gård is an organic farm, on a beautiful island in the middle of Norway. It’s a farm with opportunities for a wide variety of work, but also a place with amazing nature and possibilities for magnificent hikes, kayaking, swimming and bicycling.
The farm is run by Ola and Sissel, and we have grown up children who visits now and then. We are growing a wide selection of organic vegetables, and we also have a "Community-supported agriculture" -project on the farm, this year with around 50 members. That means at times a lot of people working on the field together.
We have cattle for meat-production, (organic, grass-fed) and some chickens for fun and eggs. We are selling some of our products locally.
In June 2023 we opened a small restaurant and a farm-shop in an old workshop-garage, that is changed into a new, modern building with big windows opening up towards the fields. Our aim is to use as much local food as possible - from our farm and others, and that all food is homemade and taste good! Our concept is “from farm to table”, and among other projects in the kitchen, we arrange classes where people can come and learn everything from growing herbs, vegetables and other edible plants, to preserve, cook and use the food in the kitchen. We invite different instructors, from gardeners to guest chefs, local and international food-lovers, and top chefs that like to come to our place to experience the connection between the fields and the kitchen.
Woofers may participate in the whole circle - from the field and the barn, to the kitchen.
The main activities for Wwoofers’ will consist of planting, weeding, harvesting, sorting and packing vegetables, and other tasks at the farm, like maintenance, wood-work and caring for the animals.
The list of projects, as always on a farm, is endless. We expect our Wwoofers’ to take part in practical tasks in the household, and you will have your own rooms, and bathroom to share.
Ps: bring warm and waterproof clothes - Norway can be cold even in summer.
Also: we don't accept smokers or any use of illegal drugs (including marihuana).
Because it takes time to teach new Wwoofers’ work tasks and routines on the farm, we give priority to those who can stay for a longer period. Minimum stay will be 4 weeks.
Organic methods on the farm: Good agronomy, crop rotation, composting, knowledge about living soil and micro life. Certifications: Debio, the Norwegian organization qualifying organic farming.
Current projects: We are going to put up a greenhouse this year, for a project in cooperation with Red Cross.
