Family farm, Community farm
Trøndelag
We live on a small island near Hitra, where we run a farm with about 140 wild sheep and, during the summer, around 200 lambs. The animals roam freely across the island, and one of our main tasks in the summer is shearing their winter wool and vaccinating them.
In addition to the sheep, we share our farm with two friendly dogs, a cat, some chickens, and two bottle-fed lambs who are still like babies to us.
We also grow our own vegetables in a kitchen garden and a greenhouse. I (Guro) am especially passionate about flowers – by June or July, I’ll have around 2,000 peonies in bloom!
We’re looking for help with everything mentioned above: from taking care of the animals and working in the garden, to general maintenance and improvement of the buildings and outdoor areas. I’ll do my best to work alongside you in the garden, but sometimes family life can get in the way.
You’ll have the freedom to organize your working hours as it suits you – whether you prefer mornings, evenings, or a mix of both is totally up to you. We trust you to be responsible with your time. We suggest around 6 hours of work per day, 5 days par week, but we won’t be counting or looking over your shoulder.
We’re a family of five, plus my father who also lives on the farm. Our oldest son (21) lives mostly in Trondheim – he may stop by if we need a hand, but you likely won’t see him much. Our two younger children are energetic – aged 10 and 3 – and bring a lot of life to the farm.
The island offers beautiful nature and great opportunities for outdoor activities like hiking and fishing. There is a bike and a canoe for your disposal.
I’ve been hosting volunteers through WWOOF and similar programs for several years. I haven’t been very active on this site lately, but I’ll do my best to reply to everyone now!
We look forward to welcoming new people and new adventures into our lives.
Warm greetings,
Guro :)

Take the speedboat from Trondheim to Hitra, then the bus to the community center, Fillan and one of us will pick you up there.

De farm is located on a very beautiful and remote island. It is run by Guro and her husband, and because they have kids and parttime jobs, you might have to work alone on the farm, which gives you a lot of freedom, but can also be a bit lonely. They can be quite stressed and sometimes it felt like they didn’t have time to work with me, so I felt a bit unwanted and didn’t learn a lot on some days. If you want to spend some time on a remote place, then it is a good farm, but if you want some more human contact and a more cultural exchange, it might not be for you.
